Teaching Philosophy (English)

I am Alexander Kilpatrick, this page outlines my approach to teaching and assessment.

Core Goal

My primary goal as an educator is to teach course material effectively and to assess student learning as fairly as possible. Fairness means consistency: the same rules apply to everyone, without exception.

Deadlines and Rules

I adhere strictly to course deadlines and to the rules of the University of Aizu. Late submissions, missed assessments, and absences are handled according to the policies stated in the course syllabus. I do not grant personal exceptions — strict adherence to policy is the fairest way to treat all students equally.

Excused Absences and Official Accommodations

I fully respect the university's official accommodation process. If you have a legitimate reason for an absence — for example, illness documented by a medical certificate submitted to the Student Affairs Academic Affairs Division (学生課教務係) — I am bound by their determination. Where the university recommends an adjustment, I will follow that recommendation. No adjustments will be made outside of this process.

Communication

I am always happy to discuss course content, assignment feedback, or questions about the material. However, if you are dealing with a situation that may affect your attendance or performance, the right first step is to contact Student Affairs (学生課教務係) directly. I cannot pre-approve exceptions, but I will honour whatever the university determines.

私はアレクサンダー・キルパトリックです。このページでは、授業および評価に対する私の考え方を説明します。

基本的な目標

教育者としての私の最大の目標は、授業内容を効果的に教え、学生の学習をできる限り公平に評価することです。公平であるということは一貫性を意味します。同じルールが例外なく全員に適用されます。

締め切りとルールについて

私は、課題の締め切りおよび会津大学の規則を厳守します。遅れた提出物、欠席した試験・評価、欠席については、シラバスに記載されたポリシーに従って対応します。個人的な例外は認めません。ポリシーを厳格に守ることが、すべての学生を平等に扱うための最も公平な方法です。

公認欠席と公式な配慮について

大学の公式な配慮手続きを全面的に尊重します。たとえば、学生課教務係に診断書を提出して承認された病欠など、正当な理由による欠席については、大学の判断に従います。大学が調整を推奨した場合は、その勧告に従います。ただし、この手続き外での調整は一切行いません。

連絡について

授業内容、課題へのフィードバック、学習に関する質問については、いつでも喜んでお答えします。ただし、出席や成績に影響する可能性のある状況が生じた場合は、まず学生課教務係に直接連絡してください。私が事前に例外を認めることはできませんが、大学の判断には必ず従います。
